Everyone has their own idea of what success means to them. How we define success is unique to our own understanding of the goals and aspirations we have for ourselves. But what makes you or your business successful in the eyes of others? Starting a small business is a successful accomplishment, and growing a business an even bigger one. So why is it if you ask the accomplished business owner or entrepreneur if they feel successful, most respond they don’t feel like they are. The reason why they don’t feel successful is their definition of success differs from yours. Even so, most entrepreneurs have this thirst for accomplishment and they never really feel success in their business. Though they may be successful, when they reach a goal they simply make new ones.
How Do You Define Success?
When you ask someone how they define success the answer will always be unique to them. It’s interesting to see how people respond to this question. Why do each of us define success differently? What I’ve had a lot of luck with is asking how do you define success when interviewing a candidate for a job opening. It really gets the individual to think about the question and put some thought into their response. I’ve also recognized it’s an easy way to learn a lot about somebody in a short amount of time. The question can be interpreted in many different ways, and to me, the question is designed to understand one’s goals. Though we may define success differently from each other, it doesn’t mean that either of us is wrong in our answer.
However it is that you define success just make sure that your goals and aspirations are realistic. Setting realistic goals for yourself will increase the likelihood of you accomplishing them and prevent you from being discouraged with unrealistic expectations. Know that when you’ve reached a successful point in life or business be sure to recognize it. However you define success just know that’s the real question is not how you define it but really what it means to you. Success could be accomplishment in life, business, love, and anything else you want it to be.
